The Invisible Home Theater Sub Appears in Stores

Detroit, MI (PRWEB) May 01, 2012

Theater Solutions, recognized for affordable excellence in loudspeaker and home theater designs, announces the addition of the Theater Solutions SUB8D and SUB8S Powered Subwoofers ? the outcome of a 15-month endeavor to provide the performance of its award?winning subwoofers in a more concealable compact size.

The SUB8D and SUB8S are designed with the modern home in mind trending toward clean unobtrusive lines and accessories such as flat screens, and flush mount surround sound speakers. The new SUB8S measures a mere 4 3/4″ x 24 5/8″ x 15 3/4″ and can be easily hidden under a couch or chair. The SUB8D measures 13 3/4″ x 10″ x 13 3/16?, perfect for a smaller room or built-in cabinet. These new designs not only needed to be compact but also to provide the deep bass punch, authoritative power and full bodied crystal sound Theater Solutions prior models are well recognized for.

This seemingly impossible task of designing a uniquely compact powered subwoofer living up to its predecessor the RT500 was a task Theater Solutions project manager and engineers began to tackle in the fall of 2010. Developing an enclosure to house a highly specialized low frequency 8? driver with high mass they were able to introduce the new models just this month.

The SUB8S and SUB8D both offer seamless acoustic integration with a variety of speaker setups for music and home theater applications. The specially built in cabinet amplifier has high level left/right spring terminal inputs. The 24db per octave crossover is continuously variable from 50-150 Hz creating full bass without the balminess.

This powered sub also has a built-in auto shut off. If two minutes goes by and sub does not receive a signal it switches to stand-by mode to conserve power. A feature Theater Solutions plans to add to all of their powered speaker lines in the future to support energy conservation and enhance safety. Volume and crossover frequency dials round out the special features on this super powerful subwoofer. The 8 inch long throw bass down firing woofer has a frequency response of 35-150 Hz +/- 2db. The port design smooths air flowing in and out of the cabinet, reducing turbulence and port noise. The ports also increase linearity, lowers distortion, reduces 5th order harmonic distortion and provides an increased output as high as 2-3 db. A black wood finish, cabinet feet, 115 AC cord, included RCA cables and RCA “Y” adapter round out this subwoofers fantastic details.

Theater Solutions was founded over 20 years ago and has steadily been growing and introducing innovative home audio products. The new SUB8S and SUB8D are available in stores now with an MSRP

of $ 199.99. Also, available on-line at OnlyFactoryDirect.com.

Torrance Home Instead Senior Care Helps Keep South Bay Seniors Safe With Free Smoke Detector Installation

Torrance, Calif. (PRWEB) July 1, 2010

Torrance Home Instead Senior Care is partnering with Mr. & Mrs. Handyman of Torrance to help keep seniors safe by offering free smoke detector and free installation while supplies last. Anyone who knows a senior in need of a smoke detector can call Home Instead at 310-542-0563. The company will provide the smoke detectors and coordinate installation with Mr. & Mrs. Handyman.

“Seniors are at especially high risk during a fire,” said Denise de Cock, RN, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office serving Torrance, Palos Verdes and Marina del Rey. “Many seniors may not realize a fire has started. They may have difficulty walking and can easily become disoriented and not know how to escape. Our goal is to give back to the senior community and add an extra measure of safety for them while also removing the burden of getting the smoke detector properly installed.”

The installer, Mr. & Mrs. Handyman, is based in Torrance and has more than 30 years experience in home repair and remodeling. “We wanted to support Home Instead with this program because we also believe in our community and it was a great way to help seniors,” said Doug Bernhardt, co-owner of Mr. and Mrs. Handyman with his wife Cindy.

According to the United States Fire Administration, older adults run a risk that is 2.5 times higher of dying in a fire than younger people. Seniors also suffer a higher number of fire related injuries. Most seniors who lost their lives or were injured by fires were in their bedroom sleeping when the fire broke out. Seniors often suffer from illnesses or disabilities that limit their mobility, making escape from a fire more difficult.

Here are additional risk factors for seniors that increase the possibility of fire related injuries or fatalities:

Feinstein Institute Becomes Home to Prestigious Federally-Funded Center on Parkinson?s Disease

Manhasset, NY (Vocus) September 29, 2010

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) announced today that The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research has been endowed as one of the Morris K. Udall Centers of Excellence in Parkinson?s Disease Research. The federal initiative to select research institutes dedicated to the study of Parkinson?s and create a Center of Excellence was started to advance cutting-edge research on is this movement disorder, which affects at least 500,000 in the US, according to NINDS estimates. The addition of two new centers — the Feinstein Institute and Emory University in Atlanta — adds new dimensions to the 9 other centers that have been selected since the program began in 1997. The NINDS grants will provide a five-year investment totaling more than $ 16 million for both research institutes.

David Eidelberg, MD, a pioneer in brain imaging in Parkinson?s, directs the Feinstein Institute?s Susan and Leonard Feinstein Center for Neurosciences in Manhasset, NY. Dr. Eidelberg and his colleagues have spent decades using imaging to capture the diseased brain. The images have allowed them to identify discrete large-scale networks damaged in the disease process. By developing a non-invasive method to measure the activity of abnormal networks in brain images from living patients, Dr. Eidelberg?s approach had led to new insights into the natural history of Parkinson?s disease and its treatment.

?This award recognizes the significant contribution made over the years in the use of advanced functional imaging technology to further the understanding of Parkinson?s disease,? said Dr. Eidelberg. ?As part of the Udall Center, scientists at the Feinstein Institute will continue to utilize novel imaging techniques and computational approaches to better understand the impact of treatment on brain organization. This knowledge will create the basis for more effective therapies for patients with this debilitating neurological disorder.?

As part of the mission of the Udall Centers, the investigators at the 11 institutions will share their expertise in an effort to speed the development of new treatments to stop, slow or prevent Parkinson?s disease.

NINDS Director Story Landis, Ph.D., made the announcement of the awards today at the World Parkinson Congress in Glasgow, Scotland. The congress is an international forum where scientists, health care providers, physicians, patients, family and caregivers meet to share the latest developments in Parkinson’s disease.

?For more than a decade, the Udall Centers of Excellence have represented our commitment to bring together the talent and effort of the foremost investigators advancing research in Parkinson?s disease,? said Dr. Landis. ?I look forward to these new centers partnering with us to accelerate basic, translational and clinical research to find a cure for this devastating illness.?

The research institutes awarded Udall Center grants have a wide range of expertise in Parkinson?s research. While the Feinstein specializes in imaging and identifying the brain networks damaged in patients and progressively worsening throughout the disease process, other centers focus on genetic and genomic studies, work to improve animal models, the development and testing of potential medicines and clinical research with Parkinson’s disease patients. The Feinstein team also will continue to work with patients who suffer serious clinical side effects from levodopa and scan their brains throughout the disease course to examine individual differences in the cognitive response to treatment. They are also developing a novel imaging method that will allow them to identify damaged brain circuits at the earliest stage of the disease. This may ultimately help to better diagnose Parkinson?s as well as developing treatments that specifically target these brain circuit changes.

The NINDS launched the program in 1997. The Udall Centers are named in honor of U.S. Rep. Morris K. Udall (D-Ariz.) He died in 1998 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

The neurodegenerative disorder attacks a specific set of dopaminergic neurons in areas of the brain that control movement and cognition. There are treatments that deliver dopamine to these hard-hit areas and help with the movement-related symptoms ? tremor, stiffness, slow gait — but there are no treatments that slow the underlying disease process.

The NINDS?s web site provides more detailed information about the Udall Centers, visit http://www.ninds.nih.gov/research/parkinsonsweb/udall_centers/. Home Storage Ideas From A to Z – Organization Makes Sense Provides 26 Different Ways for Getting Organized at Home

Vancouver BC (PRWEB) December 27, 2011

Creating home storage ideas to match every letter of the alphabet seems like a formidable challenge. The home organization website Organization Makes Sense has met that challenge and created at list of storage ideas for every letter of the alphabet – even that pesky Q.

Organization Makes Sense is the home organization website that suggests control is the ultimate and overarching goal for getting organized in the first place. Beverly Hansen OMalley started the website in order to offer practical organizing solutions to people who are putting effort into getting organized at home.

Good home storage ideas are important not only for storing stuff but for storing it properly and safely. Many archival items like photos or paper records need storage that preserves the item and prevents damage from moisture or light. Implementing the wrong storage solutions for these items could cause damage to precious memories.

Other things in the house like sports equipment, linens, or craft items can take up a lot of space. But good home storage ideas for these items will use space efficiently as well as keep the items accessible so they are ready when you are.

“Coming up with 26 home storage ideas was not that hard,’ says Beverly OMalley. “There are so many good home storage ideas available today there is no reason not to have a place to store your jewelry, shoes, towels and even your ironing boards.?

Good storage solutions simply life, prolong the life span of stored items and create efficiency with time. When everything in an organized home has its own place, less time is lost to searching.

And what about that pesky Q?

“To tell you the truth I was a little concerned about three letters of the alphabet because not many people need home storage ideas for a xylophone or a zebra!,? says Bev. ?But in fact I was able to come up with practical storage solutions for something that represented each letter of the alphabet.?

In fact, Organization Makes Sense has a storage solution for an item that starts with Q that will be present in most homes. It requires specialized storage and it is not a food item, like quince jelly.

So the home organization website that has “Control is the Goal” as a motto has met the alphabet challenge.

Getting organized at home with these 26 home storage ideas just makes good sense.

Kentucky Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect Attorneys Call Financial Crime Against Seniors a Growing Concern

Bowling Green, KY (PRWEB) December 03, 2011

Bowling Green nursing home abuse and neglect attorney Lee Coleman said today that he applauds the University of Kentucky for holding a conference last month that was aimed at calling attention to the problem of financial theft and fraud targeting senior citizens.

?As leaders at UK and elsewhere have recognized, the issue of elder financial abuse is a growing problem in need of more public awareness,? said Coleman of Hughes & Coleman Injury Lawyers, a Kentucky personal injury law firm that focuses on protecting the rights and interests of nursing home abuse and neglect victims.

?Particularly in nursing homes, where residents can be more isolated from family and other support, senior citizens are often vulnerable to predators bent on committing theft or fraud,? Coleman said.

In November, the University of Kentucky Justice Center for Elders and Vulnerable Adults held an elder abuse conference titled ?Broken Trust: Elder Financial Abuse.?

Pamela Teaster, director of the center, told Kentucky Forward that a 2011 MetLife study, which the center contributed to, found that financial elder abuse in the U.S. costs victims $ 2.9 billion annually.

?Through our work, we have seen seniors in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities victimized by financial abuse perpetrated by their direct caregivers and even by administrators of the nursing homes,? said Kentucky elder abuse and neglect lawyer and Hughes & Coleman partner J. Marshall Hughes.

Hughes & Coleman, with offices in Bowling Green, Lexington, Elizabethtown and Louisville, has investigated negligent and intentional misconduct at nursing homes and similar skilled-care facilities throughout Kentucky and obtained compensation for victims and their families through personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits.

?Financial abuse of the elderly is often undetected until well after the crime has been committed, and it is much more widespread than many people believe because many thefts go unreported,? Hughes said.

Anyone who suspects they or an elderly loved one has been a victim of theft, fraud or other elder financial abuse should seek the help of an experienced Kentucky nursing home abuse and neglect lawyer, Coleman said.

?Certain types of fraud perpetrated against the elderly can be complicated and hard to expose without knowledge of various programs for the elderly, such as Medicare and Medicaid,? the veteran attorney said. ?We take seriously the duty society has to protect our elders from those who would neglect or abuse them.?

About Hughes & Coleman Injury Lawyers

Hughes & Coleman Injury Lawyers, with Kentucky offices in Bowling Green, Elizabethtown, Lexington and Louisville, is dedicated to protecting the rights and interests of nursing home abuse and neglect victims, as well as the families who care deeply about their elderly loved ones.

Partners J. Questions to Ask Before Hiring Home Care For Your Loved One

Overland Park, Kan. (PRWEB) February 13, 2011

With the growing demand from baby boomers seeking help for aging parents, the home care industry has responded with a variety of provider options, from geriatric care managers to home care agencies. Contractual provisions and employment policies vary just as much. If you are considering hiring help for your loved one, one leading home care agency recommends that in addition to ensuring quality of care, you ask questions up front about your tax liability and insurance coverage.

?Families need to be aware of all of the implications when considering hiring home help for their aging parent or loved one,? said Cheryl Smith, President and CEO of Kansas City Home Care, Inc. ?Most people don’t think about the potential tax or liability issues when researching home health care. It?s an emotional issue and sometimes the practical aspects are inadvertently overlooked.?

Smith also said that sometimes families decide to hire a private caregiver instead of hiring an outside party, such as a home care agency. But that doesn’t always mean they avoid the financial and legal tax ramifications of being an employer. Many nurse registries and employment agencies don’t actually employ or supervise workers; they simply find them and place them in a home. Because of this, the family is the official employer and consequently responsible for salary, taxes and other obligations including verification that the worker is legally entitled to work in the U.S.

Employing a relative or friend can also put a family in the same situation. Household help is anyone who does help in or around your home according to the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP). If you have control and supervision as to what type of work is completed and how, you are the official employer. If you paid a caregiver more than $ 1,700 in 2009, the tax code requires you to withhold and pay Social Security and Medicare taxes. If you pay the caregiver wages of more than $ 1,000 in any quarter, federal and state unemployment taxes must also be paid. If the taxes are unpaid, the taxpayer must pay what’s owed, and will face late filing penalties of between 5% and 25% of the underpayment plus interest, according to the NATP.

There are other factors to consider: with home care especially, employee injuries pose one of the biggest financial risks. Federal and state laws require employers to take out workers’ compensation insurance. If there is no policy in place and a caregiver is hurt on the job, the family must pay medical expenses and disability payments. Typically, a basic homeowner?s insurance policy does not cover people working inside the home. Discrimination or harassment suits from caregivers are another risk. Umbrella policies with a discrimination rider provide protection, but these policies are expensive.

How to best avoid these potential financial and legal risks? Hire a home care agency directly to ensure that the agency is the caregiver’s official employer. This eliminates the financial worries and eases the stressful process of hiring home care. In addition, a qualified home care agency will provide training, bonding, insuring, and pre-screening of their home care employees. This will help you have peace of mind about the person caring for your loved one.

?In addition to bonding, screening and insuring, our caregivers are required to complete a qualified safety training program,? Smith said. ?If you need someone who is specially trained to care for individuals with chronic medical conditions such as Alzheimer?s or Parkinson?s disease, please seek help from an experienced, reputable agency.?
