Scripps Ranch Realtor Tom Polarek Serves the CleanTech Corridor by Placing Professionals and their Families into Homes of this North San Diego Community

Scripps Ranch, San Diego County, CA (PRWEB) April 04, 2012

Earth Hour passed once again last weekend, drawing further attention to the need for sustainable living practices and a reduction in energy consumption. Corporations take the brunt of this responsibility, given their levels of industrial intake.

San Diego is an epicenter of ecofriendly corporations. Every industry from software technology to telecommunications and consumer products to defense has found a home within the county. In a continued initiative by the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce, the CleanTech Corridor was established to draw more businesses into the region to operate in one collaborative effort to not only expand economically, but to serve as an example of corporate sustainability. In 2007, 148 Cleantech companies comprised the Corridor. In 2012, well over 800 companies exist, employing almost 40, 000 professionals. The numbers continue to grow.

Scripps Ranch, a popular real estate destination due to its picturesque landscape is also home to reputable educational facilities and industrial parks that make it a perfect setting for families and businesses alike. Located just east of the I-15, many Cleantech corporations are found within the community. Realtor Tom Polarek accounts for the trend: ?The economic and sustainable growth of the region has sparked an unparalleled arrival of families into the corridor. They are seeking residences that complement their surroundings and my job is to make this union happen for them.?

Tom Polarek encourages those moving to the corridor as a part of the Cleantech initiative to consider the growing residential community of Scripps Ranch for their new home in Northern San Diego.

The Next Challenge for Baby Boomers is Taking Care of their Parents: Overcoming Alzheimer’s with a Single Tool

Van Nuys, CA (PRWEB) August 30, 2010

“Baby Boomers” are finding themselves in the role of caregiver to their parents, in record numbers. The leading edge of the “Baby Boomer” generation will turn 65 next year, which puts their parents at 85+. Statistics from the C.D.C., say that nearly 50% of adults 85 and older are suffering from Alzheimer Disease. The National Institute on Aging predicts that adults with Alzheimer’s can live over 10 years after diagnosis. However, Alzheimer’s can strike at a much earlier age.

Unfortunately, rather than looking forward to retirement, “Boomers” are taking on the care of a parent with a progressive, irreversible illness. And because judgment and reason as well as memory are affected, these sufferers need constant care and supervision.

For families learning to navigate through the maze of health care options, services and products, family caregivers are discovering a comprehensive tool that has been described by some as a “lifesaver”: a Geriatric Care Assessment. In the hands of a Gerontologist or a Geriatric Care Manager this plan can spell the difference for families when they are facing long-term caregiving, because it takes into account everything from the person’s physical environment, to finances, to family support structures.

An elaborate time consuming process, Professionals generally charge $ 400 – $ 800 for a comprehensive Care Plan or Assessment. But many families coming to terms with this terrible disease, are not aware of this option unless recommended by doctors or hospital discharge planners.

In the past, when less was known about how Alzheimer’s progresses, a geriatric care plan was complex and could only be assembled by a knowledgeable professional. But as awareness for the disease has grown, along with services and programs, family caregivers have become very skillful at following these care plans, and with the proper guidance they can even develop their own. However, one well-known gerontologist in Los Angeles has made an excellent geriatric care assessment available to the public for free on his website: http://easycaregiving.com/DementiaAssessment/ . Better still, it’s written so anyone in the Country can use it.

Donahue Vanderhider, a Gerontologist trained at the University of Southern California, and a practicing Care Manager, is offering a comprehensive 9-page Care Assessment on one of his websites: http://easycaregiving.com/DementiaAssessment/ Mr. Vanderhider has been helping families for over 14 years, and has written several articles specifically for “Boomers” caring for their parents.

Last year in 2009, Alzheimer’s care cost Americans over 148 billion dollars. Not just in medical care, but in lost wages, private duty nursing, assisted living and so forth, adding financial insecurity to the already heavy burden of the stress associated with caregiving.

“I can see in my client?s eyes that they desperately need the guidance I have for them, but they JUST can?t swing the expense. And I, in good conscious cannot say: sorry ? go ask your support group, or try to get the doctor to give you a 10-minute description of what you can expect for the next decade,? writes Mr. Vanderhider on his blog, providing his reasoning for giving away the key tool of his trade.

The bottom line is a new case of Alzheimer’s occurs every 70 seconds. Today there are almost 6 million reported cases of Alzheimer’s in the United States, and there are at least 10 million unpaid caregivers (mostly families) that need a good solid map to successfully negotiate the maze of Alzheimer’s care. To that end much can be learned at websites like: http://www.easycaregiving.com

Ms. Wang is among the half-million Americans every year who develop sepsis or septic shock, a life-threatening immune response that claims more than 200,000 lives annually in the US. Jackie Wang is one of the lucky ones. She survived.

When she awoke from a 10-day induced coma that was necessary to save her life and was told that she had sepsis, the young woman looked puzzled: ?What?s sepsis?? she asked. She is not alone. More than 60 percent of adults do not know what sepsis is, according to a new survey sponsored by The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. US Federal Contractor Registration Reminds Grant Applicants to Verify Their CCR Registration

St. Petersburg, FL (PRWEB) December 01, 2011

US Federal Contractor Registration has announced that all applicants for Federal grants or other forms of financial assistance must complete their CCR registration first. The announcement was made on the third party registration firm?s Government Contracting Tips blog on Wednesday, November 23, 2011.

According to the USASpending website, over $ 97 billion in grants and financial assistance payments have been made since October 1st, 2011 alone. The highest payments have been made in the states of New York, Texas and California.

The federal government awards grants for a variety of reasons, such as for education or temporary housing assistance. Many of the grants available from the federal government are listed on the Grants.gov website. In order to qualify for federal grants or payments, applicants must first obtain a DUNS number and complete their CCR registration. As of August 9th, 2011, any submission received from an applicant who does not have a current and valid CCR registration will be automatically rejected.

US Federal Contractor Registration is urging applicants to complete their CCR Registration as early as possible in order to avoid costly delays. Even a simple update of an existing CCR registration can take 24 hours to process; a new CCR registration can take even longer, especially if there are errors in the submitted data. Just like government contracts, available grants have deadlines for applications to be submitted. In nearly all cases, late submissions are not accepted so if an organization misses the deadline they?ll also miss out on free money from the government.

The Georgia Tech Procurement Assistance Center has estimated that nearly 20% of CCR records errors or omissions. It is extremely important that organizations? CCR registrations are complete and accurate. Failure to complete and maintain the required government registrations can result in payment delays or disqualification for grant awards. Serious errors may even result in fines or punitive action.

In order to help organizations avoid missing out on grant opportunities, US Federal Contractor Registration offers free verification of CCR registration for businesses and other organizations. Information about current grant and government contracting opportunities is also available. Interested groups can contact the Contractor Helpline for more information at (877) 252-2700 ext 1.

US Federal Contractor Registration is a third party registration firm that has helped thousands of organizations complete their CCR registration and apply for grants. US Federal Contractor Registration pairs businesses with a dedicated case manager who helps them every step of the way. “Memories in the Making” Artists’ Tea to Be Held May 6th; Event recognizes and thanks artists, their families and program supporters

(PRWEB) May 5, 2004

The northern Colorado office of the Alzheimer’s Association Rocky Mountain Chapter announces it will host an Artist’s Tea this Thursday, May 6th at the Fort Collins Country Club from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The reception is to recognize and thank the artists, their families, and supporters of the Association’s “Memories in the Making” program.

The Association will host the sixth annual “Memories in the Making” art auction on Thursday, June 3rd at 6:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Dan Ostermiller Studio, located at 100 West First Street in Loveland. For information and tickets, call the Fort Collins Alzheimer’s Association office at 472-9798.

Memories in the Making is a unique program of creative expression for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia. The art they produce is a tangible means of expression, which speaks to their families, their professional caregivers and the public. While traditional art programs in nursing homes usually focuses on arts and crafts, Memories in the Making allows participants to express themselves creatively through painting.

Every year art created by program participants is chosen by a professional jury and displayed in an art show, then auctioned off as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. Money raised through the sale of the art is used to fund programs and services for families, caregivers and those with Alzheimer’s disease.

More than 8,500 people in northern Colorado have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and more than 61,200 people in Colorado and over 4 million in the United States suffer from the disease. Memories in the Making is a year-round program that celebrates the lives of those who suffer with Alzheimer’s while enabling them to participate in painting, and raises funds for the Association by auctioning off selected artwork.

Funds are also raised through ticket sales and event sponsorships. The Association has many partners that provide framing, food, tents, limousines, publicity and graphic design as gifts in kind. All money raised at the auction remains in northern Colorado. The money is used for client programs and to provide services for families. The 2003 Memories in the Making fundraising goal for the Association is $ 60,000.

More information on the Alzheimer’s Association Rocky Mountain Chapter, including programs and services, as well as the Chapter’s special events and fundraisers, including Memories in the Making and the Memory Walk, volunteer opportunities, etc., is available at http://www.alzrockymtn.org.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the premier source of information and support for the four million Americans with Alzheimer’s disease. Through its national network of chapters, and with the generous support of its corporate sponsors, the Association is able to offer a broad range of programs and services for people with the disease, their families and caregivers. The largest private funder of Alzheimer’s research in the United States, the Association has committed $ 136 million toward research into the disease. For the past two years, Worth magazine name Alzheimer’s Association one of the nation’s “100 Best Charities.” More information is available at http://www.alz.org.

More about Memories in the Making

For Alzheimer’s patients, a world grown confusing, overwhelming, and maybe frightening has been comforted a little by a palette of watercolor paints and blank piece of paper. With the encouragement of a volunteer art facilitator, these artists slap, doodle, and glide their brushes on paper forming meaningful works of art. This art program has helped them reach a place beneath their dementia to extract some part of who they are. Participants in this program can feel a real sense of accomplishment and achievement in a world of continual memory loss.

“We’re trying to create an emotionally safe environment where those with Alzheimer’s can express themselves with art rather than with words, which can be a frustrating experience,” says Gwen Ippen, Memories in the Making director. “This program does not teach new skills, rather it is designed to be fun and facilitate communication through art.” Alzheimer’s patients are often able to paint memories or emotions that they are no longer able to talk about.

Families and caregivers can learn more about the individual with Alzheimer’s through their artwork. For example, one artist painted a birdhouse sharing his lifelong love of building and hanging birdhouses in the yard, another paints a fish remembering the hours spent nurturing his tanks of tropical fish, while another shares her love of her children with a painting and long explanations of each child.

What began in Colorado in 1994 as a pilot program at five sites has grown to over 60 assisted-living, nursing homes, and community centers throughout the state.
